PUTRAJAYA, 17th October 2013 - Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. (Sekisui), one of Japan’s largest homebuilders, to enter into a formal collaboration to conduct a feasibility study leading towards the setting up of a new manufacturing plant for advanced pre-fabricated modular houses in Malaysia.
Present to witness the MoU signing was Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
PR1MA Chairman Dato’ Sri Dr. Jamaluddin Jarjis said Sekisui’s building technology was one of several Industrialised House Technologies (IHT) solutions which would be considered to build PR1MA Homes.
“We are excited with the potential and opportunities Sekisui’s leading edge building technology will create in helping us deliver our mandate of 500,000 PR1MA Homes. Since the Sekisui system is modular in nature which allows it to be built in a factory, we will also explore the possibility of setting up manufacturing facilities in areas where PR1MA Homes will be built,” he said.
Through this technology, PR1MA aims to achieve high quality prefabricated modular houses with 90% off-site manufacturing and 10% on-site construction target. PR1MA has formed a technical working team to work closely with Sekisui’s group of experts in introducing the advanced technology in Malaysia.
Sekisui Managing Executive Officer Mr. Hidemi Uno said the company is pleased to enter into the MoU with PR1MA and is keen to explore collaboration opportunities under PR1MA projects.
"We are honoured to be given the opportunity to reliably provide the people of Malaysia with high quality factory produced housing that precisely meets planned specifications," he said.
To be eligible for a PR1MA Home, applicants must meet several key criteria. Applicants need to be a Malaysian citizen aged 21 years and above, with preference given to residents in the area were the PR1MA development would be built.
They should also have an individual or combined gross household income of between RM2,500 and RM7,500 a month to qualify. Additionally, they should not own more than one property in Malaysia.
Eligible applicants must apply for the balloting of the homes through the PR1MA registration system via www.pr1ma.my. Applicants are also required to submit the relevant documents for screening purposes.
End financing for the homes are to be arranged by the successful applicants themselves. There is a 10-year moratorium, whereby the properties cannot be sold or transferred to another party. The homes must be owner-occupied and no subletting would be allowed.
